How MatchWire matches jobs to your candidates

Short answer

MatchWire checks each new job against every candidate using filters you can see: target job titles first, then contract type, experience, work authorization, excluded skills, clearance, location, rate and shared skills. Jobs that pass appear in the candidate’s match list for a recruiter to review.

Matching is rule-based and transparent. A candidate profile holds the preferences, each new job is checked against them, and a missing value never rejects a job. This page lists the filters in the order they run, so a recruiter can predict why a job did or did not appear.

Step 1: target titles

A job is only considered if its title matches one of the candidate’s target job titles (or the candidate’s primary skill). This is the filter with the biggest effect on volume, so candidates with several title variants see more jobs than candidates with one.

Step 2: filters on the candidate profile

Each job that passes the title check is then tested against these preferences.

  • Contract type: a candidate who only takes C2C does not see jobs marked W2 or full-time, or jobs that say no C2C.
  • Remote preference: remote-only candidates skip onsite jobs, and onsite-only candidates skip remote jobs.
  • Minimum rate: jobs that pay below the candidate’s expected rate are skipped when the posting lists a rate.
  • Experience: jobs that ask for more years than the candidate has are skipped, with one year of leniency.
  • Work authorization: candidates who are not citizens do not see jobs that require citizenship or bar visa types such as OPT, CPT or H1B. A plain “no sponsorship” line does not exclude a job.
  • Excluded skills: a candidate can rule out skills, and jobs that mention them are dropped.
  • Security clearance: jobs that require clearance are skipped for candidates without one.
  • Location: jobs outside the candidate’s preferred states are skipped unless the job is remote.
  • Shared skills: the candidate must share a minimum number of listed skills with the job text.

What happens to a match

Jobs that pass appear in the candidate’s match list, newest first. A recruiter reviews them, queues the ones worth pursuing and MatchWire drafts a tailored resume for each queued match. The recruiter checks the resume before submitting.

Why a job may not appear

If a requirement you expected is missing, check these first.

  • The candidate’s target titles do not include the posting’s wording. Add title variants.
  • The contract type, rate or location preference rules the job out.
  • The posting mentions an excluded skill or requires work authorization the candidate does not have.
  • The candidate shares too few skills with the job text.

Frequently asked questions

Is MatchWire’s matching done by AI?

No. Matching uses the rule-based filters above. AI is used afterward to tailor the resume for matches a recruiter queues.

Why do I see more matches for some candidates than others?

Title coverage is the main driver. A candidate with several target title variants matches more postings than one with a single title.

Does a missing field reject a job?

No. If a job or candidate value is unknown, that filter does not reject the job.
